We stayed at Hotel Viking which I was lucky to learn about through work. It is a beautiful hotel with the perfect location to walk downtown in less than 5 minutes. Being able to walk everywhere is the best way to explore a new city! Walking throughout Newport, you can just feel the history! Narrow streets with old homes right on the sidewalk boasting their history. And of course, the Ocean views don’t hurt this already beautiful place. On our second day we went to check out one of the famous mansions, The Breakers which was built in the late 1800’s by Cornelius Vanderbilt as a summer home. It’s like nothing I’ve seen in the US before! From The Breakers we walked down the road to an entry point of the Cliff Walk where you can walk along the water to see some incredible sites. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t so great for this part of our adventure but it was beautiful nonetheless! And always so nice to visit new places at Christmastime when everything is so beautifully decorated.
One of the major perks of living in New England is the ease and speed of getting to many great places so quickly. A great one-night getaway that happened to fall on our 6 month anniversary! Where does the time go 🙂 This mini-trip brought me back to the travels we were on one year ago this month – Cinque Terre, Rome, and Venice. This trip was a reminder that there are amazing adventures to be had at home just like abroad.
