After leaving the beautiful coast in Cinque Terre we took the train to Rome, a city I have always dreamed of visiting. Once we arrived we walked to the famous Via del Corso and surrounding shopping streets. We made our way to the Trevi Fountain which looked just beautiful at night. The next day our first stop was the Colosseum. It was absolutely incredible – I was just in awe. We walked to Palatine Hill, through the Roman Forum, then back up the shopping street to see the Spanish Steps. We put in some serious miles in a single day! The next morning, before heading to Venice, we went to St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums. I had to pinch myself at all of these beautiful sites.
The weather in Rome was amazing [around 60 degrees during the day, cool at night]. We had clear blue skies and bright sunshine. Because it’s the off-season we didn’t have to deal with big crowds or long lines at any of the main attractions. Once again, I am a believer in off-season traveling! While I didn’t love our hotel I really loved the location. We only took one cab the entire time and otherwise were able to walk or take a quick bus everywhere else.
