With Father’s Day right around the corner, here’s a festive idea for those guys-who-golf. For these Golf themed cupcakes, I kept the cake super simple….and by that I mean I made a box mix and that was it. When you want to spend time decorating, you don’t always need to spend a ton of time trying to make the perfect cake recipe. And seriously, who doesn’t like funfetti box mix?! Before the days of baking blogs we all made box cake and no one thought twice so I say it’s ok. You’ll need Wilton tip 233 (aka Grass/Fur Tip) for the frosting. For the Golf balls, I used Sixlets candy (found a small bag at Walmart in the baking aisle). And for the flags I used extra long toothpicks and some thick craft paper glued together. In order to achieve the best frosting color possible I use the Wilton Icing Colors. The 12 pack of coloring is really worth it as it gives you the most vibrant colors without impacting the consistency of the frosting like regular food coloring might. Just be sure to add just a little at a time because a little goes a long way. I use a toothpick to scoop a little gel, add to the frosting, and then mix for a minute to see how the color is looking.
If you are looking for a really simple from scratch cake, this Dark Chocolate Cupcake recipe is my absolute favorite cake/cupcake recipe and very quick to put together. I hope you all have great Father’s Day Celebrations!
